This software was inspired by Dee Gallo a very talented lady who showed me an image she had drawn using shades of gray and then laser burned it in true 3D. Unfortunately not all lasers are capable of the fine definition of power and speed settings that Dee enjoys. We wanted to emulate this 3D laser burning but with limited adjustments on our laser we set about writing this software. A poor-man's Laser 3D, if you will.

This software will take an image in .BMP format and then break it down into distinct shade channels. It then applies a series of colors to each channel. The colors will correspond to the colors used by many, many lasers to control intensity and speed when processing as graphics file.

You begin by setting up the colors for the various channels that match the colors used by your laser. Then it is simply load in the image you want and click a button to create the colored channels.

The color bands in this image will correspond with the laser intensities and speeds you have set on the color set up page. The original image to work from can be color or black and white. In this case it is one of Dee's gray scale images.

Once you have converted to the color bands, you can tweak the colors along edges slightly to break up hard lines. Practice and experience will tell you which effects if any, work best for your laser.

In this example a Mosaic with a radius of 1 has been used to soften hard lines.

This shows the color set up page where the bands of color are made to match the colors used by your laser for power and speed. In this example our laser only offers 8 colors for speed adjustment but Laser3Dee will support 16 colors.
